In an ambitious collaboration, the Australian Government and the Tasmanian Government have pledged a joint investment of $16.6 million to enhance the energy efficiency of over 1,600 social housing properties in Tasmania. This partnership marks a significant step towards addressing the challenges posed by aging infrastructure and outdated construction standards in the social housing sector.

Homes Tasmania Energy Efficiency Program: Upgrading Living Spaces

Many of Tasmania's social housing properties, constructed over 20 years ago, lack compliance with current minimum build standards, making them notably energy inefficient. The Homes Tasmania Energy Efficiency Program, a cornerstone of the $1.7 billion Energy Savings Package, aims to revamp these residences. With an equal contribution from both governments, $8.3 million each, the program focuses on making homes more comfortable year-round.

Under this program, a diverse set of energy upgrades is set to be implemented. From the installation of heat pump hot water systems and comprehensive insulation to addressing draughts through effective proofing, the initiative covers various aspects to ensure optimal energy efficiency. The incorporation of LED lights and improved window glazing further contributes to creating more sustainable and eco-friendly living spaces.
